Welcome to the AFS Data & Technology Section

The Data and Technology Section serves the fisheries community by providing expertise regarding new technology with fisheries applications, new software for data management and analysis, and proper data handling.  The Section frequently sponsors tech-oriented symposia and workshops, and it occasionally provides formal review for software.  Finally, the Section is active in the formulation of Society policy, serving on various ad hoc committees, and provides a representative (often Chair) on the Electronic Services Advisory Board and Communications Committee of the Society.

Some members specialize in data management as database administrators; others specialize in sonar mapping and GIS as habitat specialists. Still others are biologists who have expertise in programming, be it SAS or R or VBScript or FORTRAN.  Whether you consider yourself an expert in any particular technology or simply want to learn more, you are welcome to join the Data and Technology Section!
